A voice you'd recognise anywhere

Created by Hattie one year ago

You always knew when GC was on the Sales floor. I would say that was because his personality carried across the floors (which is true) but you knew because of the fundamental fact that you could hear him.

I knew that voice immediately in the boiling hot queue for the bar at Victorious, 2022. The barman serving the gentleman over from me read out his total and in response, the punter jokingly said "How much? Do you want the shirt off my back and all?!" And I didn't even need to look to know it was Gra.

I turned and said, "I thought you'd be in VIP!" When he saw it was me he laughed "Hello you!" and then said he reckoned this must be VIP given the price of the pint. He recognised my partner from the Gattaca summer party earlier in the year and made light of the fact that I seemed to have an affection for follically challenged men (both he and my partner being somewhat lacking in the hair department).

We went our separate ways. Later, as the masses trudged off Southsea Common, I heard that voice again and there he was. I leaned in for a hug and said "Have you had a good day?" and without missing a beat he responded "I'm never darkening the doorway of this festival again, daylight robbery, shit set, Nutini not playing the classics. They'll never see me again!" And I said "So, see you next year then?" and he laughed and said, "Well, you know me!". I knew he wouldn't be able to keep himself away from the prospect of fun.

I'll never forget that voice.
